In October 2018 the first NHS UK Proton Beam Therapy Centre will open at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, followed by a second centre at University College London Hospital in summer 2020. A recent workshop run by NHS England was designed to develop criteria for determining at which centre patients who are eligible for proton beam therapy are treated. In other words, who will be offered UK based treatment and who will be asked to travel abroad whilst the UK builds up its capacity?
