Simon Penwright, a passionate Brain Tumour Research supporter and much-loved husband and father, has died.
Simon, an Operations Director from Stewkley, Buckinghamshire, was diagnosed with a multifocal glioblastoma (GBM) after waking in January with a severe headache and a foul but inexplicable taste and smell, later identified as seizure auras.
He underwent surgery, three weeks of high-dose radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and further chemo, but passed away in a hospice on Monday afternoon, aged 52.
Together with his wife, Emily, and their amazing network of family and friends, Team Simon raised more than £30,000 for the charity in just a few months.
Announcing the news of his death on Facebook yesterday, Emily said: “It is with the deepest sadness to share that my husband, soul mate and best friend passed away on Monday. We are utterly devastated as a family that such an amazing man has been taken so young and so soon. I will post details of his funeral and celebration of life tomorrow.”
Emma Jolly, Community Fundraiser for Brain Tumour Research, said: “Simon was one of the best and most inspiring people I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know.
“He was brave and strong and so incredibly passionate about advocating for Brain Tumour Research. He also had a wicked sense of humour, which I will miss terribly.
“Our condolences go out to all who loved him. His story inspires us to continue in our vision to find a cure for all types of brain tumours.”
