Luton Town legends Mick Harford and Rob Edwards have sent their best wishes to a young dad who is recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumour ahead of a charity football match raising funds to help find a cure for the disease.
Adam Dilley, 33, is recovering having undergone surgery on Monday (20th August) following a regrowth of his brain cancer.
It’s a double blow for the football-mad dad as it means he’ll be missing the match taking place at Shefford Sports Club tomorrow (Friday 23rd August), organised by his colleagues at GKN Aerospace. Keeping players in line will be former Hatters player Harford. In a video message to the young dad, he said he was “really looking forward to the game” with his whistle and red and yellow cards ready.
Adam (pictured top with his partner Tasha and son Alfie) was first diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in 2021. His latest setback comes two months after he completed a six-month cycle of chemotherapy for a separate brain tumour which was found during a routine scan.
He said: “I had no side effects or symptoms for either of the two latest tumours that doctors found during routine MRI scans which is why this has been such a shock. This time I have my two-and-a-half-year-old boy to think of. Not being able to play in the football game is one thing, but it will take a while for me to be able to do all the dad things I did before.”
As he recovers from his latest operation, Adam is hoping to make it to the sidelines to watch his 11-a-side squad; Dilley’s Unathletico Madrid, as they play GKN XI.
Adam added: “This football match is a chance to raise awareness of brain tumours and drive funding towards research into the disease. I’d love for people to come along and support such an important cause to raise as much money as we can to find kinder treatments and eventually a cure for all types of brain tumours.”
