Confirming our standing as the leading voice of the brain tumour community, Brain Tumour Research appeared on Morning Live on BBC One yesterday morning, as part of a segment bringing much-needed attention to this devastating disease.
Regarding life post-diagnosis and surgery, our supporter Claire Sutton and Dr Karen Noble, our Director of Research, Policy and Innovation, spoke to Nicky Chapman on Thursday 9ᵗʰ January.
A 40-year-old nurse from Southport, Claire was diagnosed with a colloid cyst in May 2020 – the same type of tumour that Davina McCall recently had brain surgery to remove. Claire successfully underwent surgery herself in September 2020 to remove the cyst, which was obstructing the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, but she was left with balance issues.
Speaking after her appearance on BBC One, Claire said: “It was a real privilege to take part. Brain tumours affect so many people, and I feel very fortunate to be able to talk about my experience.
“It was really emotional watching it back. My phone has been pinging all morning with messages from people who watched it and said how proud they are of me, and a couple have even said they didn’t really realise about the balance – so I must hide it well.
"I think there’s been a fair few tears shed watching it!"
