A woman who lost her mum to a brain tumour is taking on our Swim Challenge in August.
Throughout the month, Beth Phillips will be swimming 2.5km to help raise awareness and fund research in to brain tumours. It’s after her mum Gill Hoare died from a glioblastoma (GBM), aged 71.
Gill’s family first suspected something was wrong when she began suffering bouts of vomiting and confusing details about her grandchildren. After she collapsed at home in March 2020, a CT scan revealed the devastating news that she had a mass on her brain.
Gill had five months of gruelling radiotherapy and chemotherapy before she was placed on palliative care. She died on 1st March 2021.
Beth will complete her swimming challenge with the help of her two children, Teddy, six, and Griff, four.
She said: “I was keen to do something to help the cause and thought it would be a great challenge that could include the children who were so fond of their Grandma who they now refer to as a star in the sky.”
