Amani Liaquat was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) on her 22nd birthday in April 2020. After standard treatment failed to stop the tumour growth, her family had to source lifesaving treatment from Germany. Thanks to the generosity of family, friends and complete strangers, more than £100,000 was raised in just 24 hours to help the family access a new trial drug.
Since her diagnosis, Amani has worked with Brain Tumour Research to raise awareness and has shared her story widely, including on BBC Newsbeat where she spoke of how brain tumour patients “don't have the luxury of time”. She supported our petition in the media and her story was published widely, including on the Mirror Online.
Amani has also launched her own podcast, Chat2Amani, in which she talks about her brain tumour diagnosis and explores themes such as loneliness and faith. She documents her experiences on Instagram @Fight4Amani and her friends and family have undertaken some amazing fundraising to support our vital work.
We are grateful to Amani and all those who share their stories to inspire people to support our vision to find a cure for this devastating disease.
