A Brain Tumour Research Trustee has raised enough money to fund a day of research after completing an eight-day trek in the Himalayas.
Jeremy Aron, 59, and son Dan, 29, reached altitudes of almost 5,000 metres during their trek last month, which took them to the base camp of Mount Chomolhari and through the high mountain passes of Nyelela and Yeli La, in Bhutan.
Legal consultant Jeremy, who has been a Trustee for six years, said: “I climbed Kilimanjaro with Dan 14 years ago and decided I wanted to try another challenge before hanging up my trekking boots. It was special to spend quality time together. I also wanted to raise money for a cause close to my heart and I’m delighted we’ve managed to raise more than £3,000.”
He added: “The camping was pretty basic but the trek itself was breathtaking; the clarity of the air, the freshness of the atmosphere, the spectacular mountain scenery and beautiful lakes. There was also interesting wildlife including yaks and blue sheep. The only disappointment was not spotting a snow leopard.”
The amount the pair raised is enough to sponsor a day of research at one of our four Centres of Excellence, each day costing £2,740.
Jeremy said: “I was lucky to attend the opening of the charity’s newest Centre, the Sutton campus of The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London, earlier this year and found it really inspiring. I am delighted that we seem to be getting some traction with research into this terrible disease. We have some really amazing researchers and supporters and, with their collective help, I hope that sooner rather than later we will find a cure.”
