Today (6th November) our thoughts are with the family and friends of Dave (aka Did) Hopkins on the first anniversary of his death.
The lives of his wife Nicki, and their children changed forever on 1st September 2020 when the father-of-three was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM).
The couple exhaustively researched treatment options but their hopes were dashed when the status of Did’s tumour meant he was unable to access clinical trials in the UK.
He underwent the standard NHS treatment for GBM, as well as expensive private immunotherapy treatment and NeoPeptide vaccines at the IOZK clinic in Cologne, Germany, but Did’s tumour continued to progress and he died on 6th November 2021.
Nicki continues to be an active campaigner for greater investment into research to find a cure, along with Did’s eldest daughter Lydia. The family has also set up Team Hopkins – Winning for Did, a Fundraising Group for Brain Tumour Research, to create a legacy for their beloved husband and father.
Ahead of Did’s anniversary, Nicki said: “I really don’t know how to put losing Did into words and the impact of him not being in our lives one year on.! It’s still heart-breaking and waves of grief hit us when we least expect it.
“Nevertheless, we are all honouring Did’s life by living our lives to the fullest we can, truly believing that his passion for life lives on in all of us.”
