Brain Tumour Research supporters are in the final stages of training for the Brighton Marathon, taking place on Sunday.
Amongst them is Ben Goode who is running inspired by his mum Linda, who was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in December 2021. She underwent a debulking surgery followed by further treatment of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
After their mum’s diagnosis, Ben and his brother Jonah both decided to run a marathon to raise funds to help find a cure. Ben will be lacing up to run along the Brighton seafront this Sunday, whilst Jonah has a couple more weeks to train for the Rock 'n' Roll Madrid Marathon on 24th April. The siblings have already smashed their fundraising target and have raised £11,500.
Ben said: “I’ve run a lot since I was younger but I’ve never really done long distances so it’s not something completely out of the ordinary for me but it’s definitely going to be a challenge.
“Every time I go out on a run and finish really tired, I realise that a marathon is basically eight of those in a row so I know it’s going to be tough but, whenever I feel intimidated about the prospect of doing it, I think about all the support we’ve got, which has blown me away.”
Speaking about his mum, Jonah said: “She’s the strongest woman I know. Seeing her go through this is hard but she’s dealing with the cards she’s been dealt and making the most of it which I really respect because it can happen to anyone at any time.”
