A man who completed an ultramarathon across the Jordanian desert is preparing for his next gruelling challenge for Brain Tumour Research.
Luke Lambert is training to take part in a triple ironman challenge which begins on Friday 22nd July. The three-day endurance event will see him swim 11.4km, cycle 540km and run 126km.
It’s nine months after Luke completed the five-day 250km Wadi Rum Desert Challenge in Jordan. Along with seven friends, he scaled giant sand dunes during the day and camped under the stars at night. After the event, Luke said: “The race was incredible. It was the toughest physical challenge that any of us have faced but the team did great and all managed to complete the race.”
Luke’s fundraising is in memory of his mum, Jenny, who was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour in November 2016. She underwent emergency surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but died in November 2019. Following her diagnosis, Jenny raised £8,400 for Brain Tumour Research.
Luke, who is hoping to raise £5,000 from his latest challenge, said: “When I came back from Jordan, I felt like I needed to have something else planned to work towards. I like seeing how far I can push my body.
“Mum was always keen to push me to do things like this, and she came to see me do a triathlon at Allerthorpe. It will be nice to have family and friends coming to watch this time.”
