John Lewis employees walk 30 miles for brain tumour cure

A team of John Lewis Partnership employees has walked 30 miles to raise money for brain tumour patients, in support of a colleague living with the disease.

The walkers were led by Claire Tuck from Kent, Isabelle Devereux from Berkshire, and Mike Johnston from Hertfordshire. On Tuesday 17th September, they set off from the Waitrose office in Berkshire, and the three teams navigated to the John Lewis head office in London. Three more employees completed a simultaneous 11 mile walk through the capital.

Together, they have raised more than £5,000 for Brain Tumour Research in support of their colleague of more than 25 years, Eoin Robb, after he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in 2023.

Claire, who worked with Eoin for two decades, said: “None of us knew much about brain tumours before his diagnosis. We have since become aware of how underfunded research into the disease is. We all agreed that we wanted to do something for Eoin, his family, and any future patients.”

The John Lewis Partnership team has undertaken a number of fundraising efforts this year, starting with Brain Tumour Research’s Wear A Hat Day in March. They covered 10 miles walking around famous London crime scenes, and Tom Shaw from the team ran a half marathon in Reading. Another colleague, Tom Barnes, is running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 13th October.

Eoin said: I work in an absolutely amazing team; they all just put their arms around me when I’m having a tough day. But the normality of working helps.

“If I had to sum up my message in just a few words, it would be to look out for one another. Especially if someone is going through any type of treatment, as it can be life-changing. And, most importantly, if you have any symptoms, please get yourself checked.”

To support the team’s amazing efforts, you can donate to us via their JustGiving page.
