A woman who says “life will never be the same again” after losing her beloved husband to a brain tumour has launched a Fundraising Group in his memory.
Mandy Calaz set up M & M Adventures in memory of her husband Mark, who died from a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) on 4th July.
Before his diagnosis in November 2019, Mark was a fit, healthy man who loved hiking and organising expeditions for the Army Cadet Force (ACF). Given the devastating prognosis that he had 18 months to live at best, Mark and Mandy started fundraising for Brain Tumour Research, taking part in our annual Walk of Hope and Wear A Hat Day with Flowers, raising more than £5,000.
Following Mark’s death, Mandy is keen to continue his legacy and has launched the Fundraising Group to help find more effective treatments and ultimately a cure.
Mandy said: “It’s not until you are in the situation that you realise how scary the stats are for patients with brain tumours. There is no cure. It’s such a destroyer of families. It would be so amazing to have something to prolong your loved one’s life, if not a cure. I am continuing Mark’s work, because I promised him I would keep fighting and keep funding research so that other families don’t have to go through what we have.”
The group’s first fundraising event was a 22km Walk of Hope, which took place on 30th October, and Mandy carried some of Mark’s ashes on the walk.
You can support M & M Adventures through text donate: just text MARK to 70085 to donate £5 Brain Tumour Research. Texts cost £5 plus one standard rate message.
