On Thursday last week our Member Charity, Brain Tumour Research Campaign (BTRC) was delighted to welcome Davina McCall to its annual carol concert. It was Davina’s first public appearance since undergoing brain surgery for a colloid cyst.

Attending along with her neurosurgeon Kevin O’Neill, Co-Investigator of Research at our Centre of Excellence at Imperial College London, and her boyfriend Michael Douglas, Davina took the opportunity to make a moving speech.

The concert was to raise funds for BTRC to support vital research at Imperial, and Davina said: “I know lots of you here are on your own brain tumour journey and many of you have lost loved ones to a brain tumour.

“I lost my sister to a brain tumour in 2012 and my ex-father-in-law a year ago.”

Two years ago, members of the EastEnders cast attended the BTRC carol concert, following the on-screen diagnosis of Lola Pearce (played by Danielle Harold) with a brain tumour in the popular BBC soap.

BTRC was set up by Wendy Fulcher (pictured top left), one of our Trustees and, until the end of June 2024, Chairman of the Board, along with Kevin O’Neill, who treated her husband John at Charing Cross Hospital before he died from a glioblastoma (GBM).
