Couple’s Great North Run for brain tumour mum

1 min read

A couple are preparing to run a half-marathon to show their support of a loved one battling a brain tumour.

Adam D’Aubney and his girlfriend Gemma Lewis will be taking part in the Simplyhealth Great North Run in Newcastle on Sunday 11th September to raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research.

The inspiration for their fundraising comes from Adam’s mum, Deb D’Aubney, who was diagnosed with an inoperable grade 4 glioblastoma (GBM) in March after suffering with severe headaches.

Gemma has previously completed the Great North Run, but it will be Adam’s first half marathon. The pair are hoping to raise £2,740 to sponsor a day of research at one of our Centres of Excellence.

Adam said: “I’ve done some pretty long cycle rides in the past but nothing like this; I’m quite anxious about it. I use my mum’s exercise bike when I’m there and over the next month Gemma and I will start running as well.”

“We’re hoping a cure can be found for this disease and want to smash our £2,740 target. Whilst preventing or curing the disease might be too late for my amazing mum, maybe research will mean it's not too late for others.”
