A woman is preparing to jump out of a plane to raise funds to help find a cure for the disease which has changed her niece’s life.
Lynda Moore’s adrenaline-fuelled adventure will see her take to the skies this Saturday (2nd July) to skydive 13,000ft in support of Brain Tumour Research. Her freefall fundraising is inspired by her niece, Rhiannon Mortimer, who was diagnosed with an optic nerve sheath meningioma in November 2020.
Having undergone seven weeks of radiotherapy last year, Rhiannon is now being monitored with regular scans. Permanently partially-sighted, she is learning to adjust and keen to help raise awareness of the disease.
Lynda said: “When I think of everything Rhiannon’s gone through over the past few years, throwing myself out of a plane seems like nothing in comparison. She doesn’t know what she’s up against whereas I’ve just got to jump!”
Lynda has already raised nearly £800 and her challenge was shared in Suffolk News. If you’d like to donate inspired by Lynda’s high-flying fundraising, click here to visit her JustGiving page.
She added: “It’s been quite an eye-opener because, before Rhiannon’s diagnosis, we didn’t know much about brain tumours. You hear about other cancers but no one ever really talks about brain tumours, which is why it’s so important for us to do what we can to help raise the profile of the charity.”
