An artist is selling unique Christmas cards to raise funds to help find a cure after two of her friends were diagnosed with brain tumours.
Fiona Bell-Currie, who used to create merchandise for the National Trust, has designed a beautiful wintry scene for her festive card, which she is selling in packs of five for £3.
Her fundraising is inspired by two friends who have both been diagnosed with brain tumours. Eljay Dickins, Fiona’s first art editor at publisher Mitchell Beazley, was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) following a seizure in 2019. She underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy and continues to monitor her tumour with regular scans. Carrie Taylor, a fellow painter, was diagnosed with a GBM in 2020 after experiencing reduced movement in her left side. She underwent debulking surgery followed by radiotherapy and has recently moved into a hospice.
Fiona, who also raised £150 by taking part in our 100 Star Jumps a Day in November Challenge, said: “I thought it was extraordinary to know multiple people with brain tumours – it was as though it was contagious. I felt helpless and wanted to do something to help and the only thing I could think of was to make cards.”
