A new Fundraising Group joins our family

Today we’d like to extend a warm welcome to Mick’s Heroes, set up as at tribute to Mick Bradley, husband of Tracey (pictured below with Mick) and dad to Meg and Amy.

Mick was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in September 2022 after experiencing a sudden chronic headache and vomiting violently.

Amy said: “It was so sudden, like someone flipped a switch. He’d never had anything like that before.”

Although meningitis or sepsis were initially suspected, an MRI scan revealed tumours in Mick’s brain, which a biopsy confirmed as GBM. Despite radiotherapy and chemotherapy, as well as alternative therapy in the form of cannabis oil, Mick died from sepsis in September 2023. Brain cancer was the secondary cause of death.

Before losing their beloved dad, Meg and Amy had already started fundraising, taking part in Wear A Hat Day, 10,000 Steps a Day in February and the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. They raised enough to sponsor three days of research and placed three tiles on the Wall of Hope at our Centre of Excellence at Queen Mary University of London when they visited in November 2023, just two months after Mick passed.

The sisters have set up Mick’s Heroes to continue their dad’s legacy, holding the Group’s first official event in June – a family Fun Day, which raised more than £3,000, bringing their overall total to more than £17,000, thanks in part to sponsorship from their employer Cygnet Group – a leading UK provider of health and social care services for people with various needs.
