Two pals are taking on today’s Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research in memory of their friend who died from the disease.
Frankie Moody and Laura Wright are running for Ria Melvin, who died of a brain tumour in August. Ria was just 23 when she was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and passed away less than three years after her diagnosis. Supporting Brain Tumour Research herself, Ria campaigned passionately to increase the national investment in brain tumour research and raise awareness of the disease.
The 13.1-mile route will take Frankie and Laura through four of London’s eight royal parks. The pair have already raised more than £1,150 in Ria’s memory.
Frankie (pictured right with Ria) said: “When you see the difference it’s made with other cancers, breast cancer for example, how the funding for that has improved diagnoses, processes and treatments, and all the people who have it and survive, it’s incredible and just goes to show what can be achieved. Part of dealing with our grief is feeling like we’re doing something helpful and useful in Ria’s memory, so we’re proud to be supporting Brain Tumour Research.”
To support Frankie and Laura as they complete their half marathon, please donate via their JustGiving page here.
