A Fundraising Group set up earlier this year in memory of a much-loved mum-of-two has already raised around £62,000. Events and challenges have included: 10,000 Steps a Day in February, Jog 26.2 Miles in May, a team of runners including Nicola’s husband Alan taking on six half-marathons and the Belfast City Marathon which collectively raised more than £38,000, a barbecue and the primary school where Nicola had been a teacher holding a sponsored walk.
Nicola Robinson’s family set up Stronger Together for Nicola to fulfil her wish to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for brain tumours.
Last weekend, a gala ball attended by around 170 people raised around £18,000 through ticket sales, a fun casino, auctions and a raffle. Our Community Fundraiser, Tania Faverzani was there to represent the charity. She said: “There was so much love and emotion for Nicola in the room. I spoke to many of the guests and almost every one of them had a personal connection with her.”
Alan said: “We laughed and we cried. We raised much-needed funds and awareness, but most importantly we remembered my beautiful wife; the one missing piece in our jigsaw!”
Nicola was mum to one-year-old Alfie and Amelia, four, when she was diagnosed four years ago with a diffuse astrocytoma. Despite two awake craniotomies, as well as gruelling radiotherapy and chemotherapy, nothing could stop the growth of the tumour and Nicola passed away, aged 35, in October 2021, leaving a huge void in the lives of her family which “can never be filled”.
