Son’s “soul destroying” diagnosis inspires charity challenge

1 min read

A mum is taking part in our 100 Squats or Star Jumps a Day in November Challenge inspired by her son who is now on end-of-life care.

Linda Peel is taking part in the challenge to raise much-needed funds and awareness. Her inspiration is her son Andi, 30, who was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in January 2020.

Andi, pictured with his mum, underwent surgery to remove the tumour, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Devastatingly, since July this year, his condition has worsened and Linda says it is “soul destroying” watching her son deteriorate.

Since Andi’s diagnosis, his loved ones have taken part in a number of fundraising challenges. In September 2020, Andi joined Linda and other family members for a Walk of Hope. His aunt Deb took part in this year’s 10,000 Steps a Day in February challenge and his best friend Ross Bland held a charity basketball match at Leicester Riders’ stadium in April.

Linda said: “This is so important because research into brain tumours is so under-funded. Something has got to change.

“Every minute with Andi is precious. I’m with him all the time and I want to be there and help him. I want to look back and know that I’ve done my best for him.”
