As COVID-19 restrictions are lifted in England tomorrow, we understand that many of our supporters may have mixed feelings about what this will mean.
With social distancing measures and mask wearing no longer required in crowded places, some will be celebrating a restored sense of freedom. Others might feel freedoms are taken away because their cancer treatment could mean the vaccine is less likely to protect them from serious illness if they become infected with the virus.
Brain Tumour Research, along with other charities which speak together as One Cancer Voice, has signed an open letter published today in the Observer. It urges people to consider still taking precautions such as mask-wearing and observing social distancing to protect the vulnerable.
Adding to this Sue Farrington Smith MBE, Chief Executive of Brain Tumour Research, said: “We recognise that, in order to allow economic recovery, which in turn will bring huge benefits in terms of public health, we must work towards removing the restrictions which have been in place during the pandemic.
“People have the right to make their own decisions based on their individual circumstances and we urge everyone to continue to think of others as they make these decisions.”
