A bereaved mum is calling for support of our petition as she marks 10 years since her son was taken by a brain tumour.
George Rodd died from a medulloblastoma on 22nd May 2013, aged three, just seven weeks after he was diagnosed with the disease. His mum Michelle said the cancer “felt like a fire we weren’t going to be able to put out”.
She added: “What happened to us can seriously happen to any family, this cancer does not discriminate and can destroy lives and families overnight.”
Last month, Michelle and her husband James ran the TCS London Marathon in George’s memory, carrying his special teddy, Mousey, who sported a matching Brain Tumour Research vest. They raised more than £20,000 for Brain Tumour Research.
Now, Michelle is urging people to sign our petition calling on the Government to ring-fence £110 million of current and new funding to kick-start an increase in the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million a year by 2028.
She said: “Not much has changed in terms of treatment options in the 10 years since George passed and that’s what really scares us. We’re going round and round in circles and even when the Government promises money for research, it doesn’t materialise, which is disgraceful. This is the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40 so it just doesn’t make sense. When is it ever going to change?”
