A student nurse has joined our Fighting Force team preparing to conquer the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
Faye Lynch is in training to tackle the mountain challenge which will see her scale the iconic peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough nestled in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. She will walk all 25 miles in 12 hours.
Her fundraising is inspired by her dad Allan Barnes, who died from a glioblastoma (GBM) just nine months after he was diagnosed with the disease. Allan underwent six weeks of radiotherapy and was meant to have six months of chemotherapy, but only managed three rounds, which left him feeling very tired and depressed. He died at home on 14th January, with his loving family by his side.
Faye will be joined by her aunt, Lucy Barnes, for the challenge on 14th May. She has already raised more than £450 on her JustGiving page.
She said: “What my family has been through is horrendous. Brain tumours are more common than many think, but there have been no advances in treatment options for decades.”
“Having radiotherapy and chemotherapy was the worst thing Dad could have done. He was never happy again after. If the money I raise helps just one family, then it’s worth it.”
