A popular Brain Tumour Research supporter has died eight years after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM).
Mum-of-two Kelly Casey was known for her sense of humour and ability to make others laugh.
She often went above and beyond with her fundraising and took part in our 10,000 Steps a Day in February Challenge last year dressed as Derek the Duck.
The 38-year-old, from Hackney, appeared on ITV London in her bright yellow duck costume and even attracted the attention of comedian Alan Carr, who sent her a video message on Instagram.
Initially misdiagnosed with Bell’s palsy after the side of her face dropped, Kelly underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy following her brain tumour diagnosis in 2015.
She recovered well, but a routine scan in 2020 revealed her tumour, nicknamed Bertie, had grown, leading to further chemotherapy.
She received a further blow last summer when a follow-up scan revealed she had developed new tumours.
Wheelchair-bound and suffering from vision problems, Kelly made plans to spend Christmas at home with her husband, Alan, and their sons, Aidan, 17, and Kiran, 11.
In December, she said: “The way my health has been lately, we know it’s a possibility I won’t be around next Christmas.”
Breaking news of Kelly’s death on Facebook, on Friday (27 January) Alan said: “Our beautiful wife, mother and friend passed away today. I feel blessed to have met and known her, truly one of a kind that touched so many lives. Our two boys and I will miss her dearly.”

Kelly raised more than £10,500, which is equivalent to sponsoring three full days of research.
