A golf club has held a memorial competition for one of its longstanding members, raising funds to help find a cure for the disease that killed him.
Keen golfer Lee Patterson passed away from a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in November 2020, aged 51. Earlier this month, Whitley Bay Golf Club, where Lee was a member for 15 years, held a tournament to fundraise for Brain Tumour Research in his memory.
Ally Hall, Men’s Captain at the golf club, said: “The club created five ‘brain tumour bunkers’ next to the sixth hole, which were dedicated to the charity. Any golfer landing in one of the bunkers was encouraged to pay a pound at the end of the round. I played golf with Lee numerous times and it was always a pleasure to be in his company. Lee had a really dry sense of humour. He was very sociable and fun to be around. He had a lot of close friends at the golf club and we are delighted to be able to remember him, while raising money and awareness for such an important cause.”
Lee’s wife Kathy (pictured with Lee) said: “Lee was passionate about his golf, so it’s so great to have the support of the club.”
Brain Tumour Research is calling on all golfers, from beginners to experts, to get involved and raise vital funds and awareness of this devastating disease.
