An online art auction hosted by broadcaster Glenn Campbell and Bonhams has raised more than £80,000, including £26,000 from Jack Vettriano's Portrait of the Artist, to help find a cure for brain tumours.
Showcasing an impressive collection of contemporary Scottish art the Brain Power art sale in support of Brain Tumour Research saw 40 lots go under the hammer with the works also on display to the public at Bonhams in the West End of Edinburgh during the auction period (Friday 2nd to Monday 12th August).
Portrait of the Artist (study) by Jack Vettriano (Born 1951) led the sale
The grand total raised will go towards supporting our ambition to establish a new Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow where world-leading brain cancer experts will work to find a cure for glioblastoma (GBM).
Writing on his Facebook page after the auction closed earlier this week, Glenn (pictured top with May Matthews, Managing Director of Bonhams Scotland) said: “I am amazed and beyond delighted at how successful the Brain Power Art Sale has been.”
He added: “Thank you to all bidders for making this such an exciting sale and congratulations to those who were successful. Huge thanks to the generous artists, galleries and collectors who donated such beautiful artworks and to the framers who gave time and materials to make some pieces look even better. I would also like to say a very special thank you to May Matthews and her team for making this sale possible, for going above and beyond in presenting it and promoting to the world and for waiving all commission.”
Glenn’s fundraising community, Brain Power, was established after his own diagnosis with and subsequent treatment for an oligodendroglioma in 2023.
