An incredible teenager has raised more than £11,000 to help find a cure after completing his own ‘London Marathon’ in his back garden.
Thirteen-year-old William Priddy ran a whopping 1,992 laps of his garden on Sunday to complete the 26.2-mile distance, finishing in nine hours and 50 minutes. His marathon efforts saw him pass all of the iconic London landmarks, including Big Ben and Tower Bridge, thanks to mum Joanne’s hard work to make the experience “feel more real”.
This is the latest in a series of running challenges that William has undertaken to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, inspired by his dad Greg’s diagnosis with a rare primary brain CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) last year. He is already running a mile a day for a whole year and, in May, he upped his daily distance to complete four marathons throughout the month.
Speaking on ITV London after his challenge, William said: “I’m really proud of myself. I’m lucky to have the support of my family, friends, neighbours and teachers at the Magna Carta School. It was quite tough at times and I was really happy that I was able to finish it.”
William was also interviewed on Fun Kids Radio where his Harlequins rugby hero, Danny Care, joined the call to congratulate him on his heroic fundraising. Click here to watch the heart-warming video.
