Welcoming Tay’s Tribe to our family

2 min read

Today we’d like to extend a warm welcome to new Fundraising Group Tay’s Tribe as they join our brain tumour family.

Sadly this Fundraising Group has been established following the loss of Taylan Kurtul (pictured below), aged just six, in February this year, nine months after diagnosis with an aggressive medulloblastoma. He had been suffering with headaches, feeling sick and exhausted, before then experiencing issues with his balance.

Despite surgery, which caused posterior fossa syndrome (PFS), a six-week course of proton beam therapy and beginning a course of chemotherapy, nothing halted the progression of the tumour and his parents Laura and Toygun (pictured below) made the impossible decision to stop treatment.

On Saturday 22nd June, along with incredible support from friends and family, Tay’s Tribe put on their first official charity fundraiser which they called TayFest, offering a range of fun activities for children up to the age of 12 and with a target to raise £4,000. Among the many families who attended, were lots of Tay’s school friends, enjoying a foam party and disco, Lego building and glitter tattoos, the opportunity to learn circus skills or have a go at Taekwando, as well as meeting Batman and Tay’s favourite superhero Spiderman.

TayFest not only surpassed its fundraising target, it was so successful that it will be returning next year, bigger, better and bolder!

A huge well done to Tay’s Tribe.
