A supporter is preparing to take on an epic running challenge to mark the ninth anniversary of his mother’s death.
On Saturday, Alex Poyser will be lacing up his trainers to run 70km to fundraise money for Brain Tumour Research. He will begin his route in Sheffield, traversing the classic Edale Skyline route anti-clockwise, before running back to Sheffield. In addition to the demanding distance, Alex will also climb 1,800m of elevation.
He is taking on the challenge in memory of his mum, Jean Poyser, who was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). She underwent surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment, but sadly passed on 28th February 2012, just 10 months after her diagnosis.
Having originally hoped to complete his challenge on the anniversary of his mum’s death, Alex’s challenge was delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions and he will be completing it this weekend. He has already raised more than £2,400 and hopes to top up his total to sponsor a day of research at one of our Centres of Excellence.
Alex said: “I have no doubt that the run will be extraordinarily challenging, but I am choosing to suffer in the hope that I can help prevent others from going through the pain that my family experienced. Whilst I am running in memory of my mother, my main motivation is to contribute towards helping improve treatments and care for brain tumour patients.”
