Pint-sized singing sensation Lyra Cole is now a strong contender to be UK number one this Christmas.
The six-year-old from Somerset reached the top 50 in the UK Official Download Chart this weekend having been ahead of Stormzy and the X Factor Celebrities on the Amazon download chart for four straight days since her single was released.
The inspirational youngster has touched so many hearts and she and her family have been overwhelmed by the support and kind messages they have received, many of which have been left by well-wishers who have visited her page on our website.
Hugh Adams, our Head of Stakeholder Relations, who you may have seen alongside Lyra and her dad Dan Cole on Sky News on Friday – one of the many broadcast interviews the family has done – said: “The reaction to Lyra and her single really has been overwhelming. And what an inspiration she is, having undergone surgery at just five months to remove a brain tumour. Happily, as we can all see, she is now doing well. We know that many others are not so lucky and that’s why the awareness this single is helping to create is so vital in our work to get out our message out there: brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet, historically, just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. We are determined to change that.”
