Pupils at two Norfolk schools will be getting into the festive spirit next month when they dress up as elves to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research
The idea for the dress-up day snowballed from nine-year-old Oliver Napthen’s decision to take part in Wear A Christmas Hat Day. Oliver and his family have supported the charity since his father, Robin Todhunter, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2019.
Robin was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) after suffering with debilitating migraines. He underwent a successful debulking surgery, but the tumour grew back and radiotherapy and chemotherapy proved unsuccessful. He died in January 2020, just weeks after his 50th birthday.
Students at King’s Lynn-based Greyfriars Academy – where Oliver is a pupil – and the Rosebery School are being asked to make a small donation in return for being able to turn up to class in full elf costumes on 10th December.
Oliver’s mum Kia (pictured with Oliver) said: “When we’ve done Wear A Hat Day before, the kids have gone to school in elf hats so we wanted to keep to the Christmas theme and thought why not use Wear a Christmas Hat Day as an excuse to wear the whole elf outfit? Oliver loves dressing up and is going to look so cute.”
