Member Charity makes headline news

In our work to increase awareness, we were delighted that ITV London’s Evening News chose to feature our Member Charity In Sue’s Name recently as one of its leading stories. It came last month on the day we held a Member Charity event at our Centre of Excellence at Queen Mary University of London.

The broadcast piece centred on In Sue’s Name’s astonishing contribution to funding vital research in the quest to find a cure for brain tumours and specifically glioblastoma. Having pledged to raise £1 million for Queen Mary, the charity has already donated an incredible sum of close to £580,000. This sponsored post-doctoral researcher Myrianni Constantinou over a four period, working on her PhD resulting in a breakthrough that could lead to new treatments for glioblastoma. The charity will fund a second PhD researcher, again focusing on improving outcomes for glioblastoma, once recruited this autumn.

In Sue’s Name was set up by David Taylor, after he lost his eldest daughter Sue Blasotta, aged 42 (pictured below with her children Sasha and Daniel), just six weeks after her diagnosis with a glioblastoma.

When Sue was being treated in hospital, there were two other members of her North London Catholic parish also there due to brain tumours. One died aged 34, the other also 42.

The support of organisations and Member Charities like In Sue’s Name is bringing forward the day when a cure is found for brain tumours, while helping to raise awareness of the brain tumour cause.
