John’s 50k in one day

1 min read

A man is preparing for an epic endurance challenge to help find a cure for brain tumours inspired by a teenager who lost his life to the disease.

John Ryan is preparing for a 50km triathlon which will see him row 10km, cycle 30km and run 10km in one day. He will complete the mammoth challenge at the Inspire gym in Luton on Friday 15th July.

He said: “I can do each of those things individually but doing all three in a day is going to be a challenge, but I’m feeling up for it.”

The challenge is in memory of George Fox, known to many as Gorgeous George, who died in April, aged 13, just 12 months after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Following George’s diagnosis, he and his family became passionate supporters of Brain Tumour Research, campaigning for more funds for vital research into brain tumours.

John, a long-term friend of George’s mum Louise, said: “I had actually wanted to get involved before George passed away to add to their GoFundMe page, but unfortunately he deteriorated very quickly, which is why I’m doing this now.

“Let’s hope George didn’t die in vain. Anything I can do to support research into brain tumours and stop even one more family from having to go through this has got to be a good thing.”

To help John reach his £500 fundraising target, please donate via his JustGiving page:
