As the first week of our Jog 26 Miles in May Challenge draws to a close, our amazing supporters have already raised more than £200,000.
Among the fantastic fundraisers taking on the challenge is Trish Mackay, who lost her husband to a brain tumour just a few weeks ago.
Michael Mackay was diagnosed with a grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma in August 2020 after Trish noticed he was snoring louder than usual. Michael’s tumour was inoperable due to its location and he was given a devastatingly short prognosis of just three to 12 months. He began a course of temozolomide (TMZ) chemotherapy to try to shrink the tumour, but decided not to continue with treatment due to the effect it was having on his quality of life. Michael passed away on 26th March.
Now, Trish is taking part in the Jog 26 Miles in May Challenge along with her children, Leanne and Mark. She has worked with Brain Tumour Research to share her heart-breaking story widely, including in The Mirror, Mail Online, The Sun, The Herald and Daily Record, to help raise vital funds and awareness.
She said: “We’re blown away by the number of donations we’ve had already. We raised an incredible £4,100 before we even began. We’re so proud of what we’re doing in Michael’s memory. We love and miss him every day and each step of our challenge will be done with him in our hearts.”
