Today we are holding the family and friends of Taylan Kurtul in our hearts as they face the first anniversary of his passing.
Taylan was diagnosed with an aggressive medulloblastoma after suffering with headaches, feeing sick and exhausted, before going on to experience issues with his balance.
He underwent surgery, which, like around 25% to 35% of children with medulloblastoma, caused posterior fossa syndrome (PFS). Taylan also had a six-week course of proton beam therapy and began a course of chemotherapy, but nothing worked to halt the progression of the tumour and his parents Laura and Toygun (pictured above right) made the incredibly difficult decision to stop his treatment.
Taylan passed away a year ago today, aged six, just eight months after his diagnosis.
Since losing their only child, Taylan’s mummy and daddy have set up a Fundraising Group known as Tay’s Tribe to keep Tay’s name alive and create a lasting legacy for their “sweet, loving, beautiful boy”.
To date, the Fundraising Group has raised more than £31,000.
