We are very grateful to all our supporters helping with our campaign to Light Up the UK during March – Brain Tumour Awareness Month – and especially on Wear A Hat Day. We’ve had a brilliant response and are getting notifications almost every day of landmarks lighting up for the brain tumour cause.
Among these are Bedford’s Corn Exchange and St Nicholas Church in the Bedfordshire village where the Fox family (pictured above centre) live. Both landmarks are lighting up to honour George Fox.

“Gorgeous George”, as he was known by all who loved him (above with mum Louise), was 12 when he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in 2021, after experiencing headaches and vomiting. A passionate Arsenal supporter, George underwent multiple brain surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, with the brave youngster also travelling to Germany and America for treatment. But despite everything, George passed away, aged 13, just a year later.
Dedicated supporter Emma Carrick (pictured below and above right with husband Brian) has secured the lighting up of Hotel de la Tour in Milton Keynes – where Brain Tumour Research is based – to honour Brian who was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma after suffering a seizure in 2016, which has left him with life-changing effects and unable to work.

Emma is famous within the Charity and the brain tumour community for wearing a different hat each day throughout March, posting a selfie on her social media and asking people to make a donation.
It’s not too late to register for Wear A Hat Day, or to help us in our campaign to Light Up the UK for Brain Tumours. Drop an email to liz@braintumourresearch.org to ask for a template email to send out to owners of landmarks that already light up for good causes.
