Headteacher runs London Landmarks in memory of pupil’s father

A Berkshire headteacher has run the London Landmarks Half Marathon in memory of a parent who died of a brain tumour.

Jeremy Banks, 52, of Caldicott Preparatory School, raised more than £13,000 for Brain Tumour Research after running the 13.1-mile race on Sunday (6th April). He ran in honour of Neil Danziger, the father of one of the school’s students, who died in December 2024 of a high-grade diffuse midline glioma.

Organisers said Jeremy was the event’s top fundraiser, honouring him with the number one race bib. The headteacher said: “I became aware of Neil’s situation shortly after his son started at the school. I slowly saw him succumb to the disease. With the blessing of his family, I was pleased to run in Neil’s honour and continue his incredible fundraising legacy to drive investment in research into brain tumours.”

Neil raised more than £30,000 for Brain Tumour Research before his death, a cause close to the hearts of many in the school's community, including our Patron and brain tumour patient Caprice Bourret, whose children attended Caldicott.

The London Landmarks Half Marathon was especially poignant, occurring the day after what would have been Neil’s 50th birthday. His widow Victoria said it was “very moving” for Jeremy’s run to fall so close to the day.
