Get ready for Wear A Hat Day

With just two weeks to go until Wear A Hat Day, supporters across the UK are planning hat-themed fundraising events to help find a cure for brain tumours.

By getting involved in our annual fundraiser, taking place on Friday 27th March, you’ll help bring hope to the one in three people who knows someone affected by this devastating disease.

It’s easy to take part, simply register and we’ll be in touch with all the support you need.

From flat caps to fascinators, bowlers to beanies, families and friends will be wearing their favourite hats as they host quizzes, competitions and bake sales in their workplaces, communities and schools.

Among those taking part is Laura Peggs, 47, who is living with the life-changing effects of an ependymoma.

Laura is holding a mindful colouring event at Harpur Shopping Centre in Bedford, encouraging shoppers to take part in decorating simple gnome designs wearing hats, in exchange for a suggested £2 donation to the Charity.

“I started the colouring event because we live such busy lives and anxiety rates are high. I wanted it to be community-focused and a simple way of raising awareness of a disease that kills more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.

“I also want my story to reassure people that even if you have a brain tumour in childhood, you can still have a life that’s liveable. But survival isn’t the end of the story. We need to find a cure so children and adults don’t have to live with the lifelong consequences of this disease, said Laura

Emma Carrick has already sported 10 different hats and still has a plethora of headgear to go as she aims to once again wear a different hat every day throughout March. Now in her 10th year of fundraising for Brain Tumour Research, Emma has raised an incredible total of more than £10,000. It’s all inspired by husband Brian, who’s been living with the disease since his oligodendroglioma diagnosis in October 2016.

“I didn’t know anything about brain tumours but I then found out about Brain Tumour Research and the work it does to fund research. That’s when I knew I wanted to get involved.

“I keep on signing up for this event because I love hats. I’ve got a walk-in wardrobe which houses my collection of around 90 hats, all of them various shapes and sizes. Some are funny and some hold a sentimental value. I've got quite a lot of silly hats, but I've also got some really nice designer hats which are all unique so I'll be wearing some of those, said Emma

Feeling inspired? If you haven’t already registered for Wear A Hat Day, there’s still time to take part. It can be as simple as asking everyone at work, school or in your community to wear a hat and donate £5. Any amount raised will make a big difference.

Simply sign up today and we’ll be on hand to help.
