Fundraisers transform into pop icons

A group of fitness fanatics from Northumberland have transformed themselves into popstars from the 80s and 90s to help find a cure for brain tumours.

Diane Shane-Stone, owner of SSFitness in Ovingham, has organised a charity calendar for a fourth year to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. Her fundraising comes after her dad Michael Shane died from a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in April 2016.

This year’s calendar theme is 80s and 90s pop icons and features 19 members of SSFitness dressed as the Spice Girls on the front cover. Diane’s two sons also appear in the calendar – Ben features as Prince, and Charlie as George Michael, alongside Ben’s girlfriend Ellie as Andrew Ridgeley, to form the duo Wham! Other stars featured include Bros, Kylie Minogue and Adam Ant.

Diane said: “I’m so proud of my wonderful clients, they’re a special lot. The calendar is a really good fun community project and I feel honoured to have these people in my fitness classes.

“Dad was a real doer and did a lot to help people so he would love the fact that we’re doing this. I just want to do something positive, so others don’t have to go through what Dad did.”

The calendars are available to buy for £7.99 each from Diane or from Savannah Hair Salon in Stocksfield. To contact Diane, please email:
