We are thinking about the Treharne family (pictured above right) as they face what should be a day celebrating Ethan’s 21st birthday.
Ethan (above centre and below) a talented all-round sportsman, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, aged 15, while preparing for his GCSEs, after experiencing severe headaches and slurred speech.
Over the course of two years, Ethan endured three operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. He developed epilepsy and went to Germany for private immunotherapy treatment, but nothing could save him and he passed away on 26th November 2021, aged 17.
Mum Nikki said: “Every day is tough without Ethan – he was such a big character, so loved by his family and his wide circle of friends – but his 21st birthday will be particularly tough. His brother Finlay is already older than Ethan was when we lost him and his sister Martha is the same age as he was when he was diagnosed and is also preparing to take GCSEs.”
We are grateful to Nikki and her husband Justin for setting up the Fundraising Group A New Hope for Ethan to create a legacy that sponsors research in their son’s memory and brings hope to families affected by this cruel, incurable form of cancer in the future. The Group has already raised an incredible total of more than £60,000.
And this weekend, on Sunday 2nd February, celebrities will be taking to the pitch in a football match to be held in conjunction with Selebrity Soccer at Sandhurst Town FC, kicking off at 3pm, to mark another birthday without Ethan.
