Double date: Fitness fanatics pair up to help find brain tumour cure

2 min read
A group of Northumberland fitness fans has swapped their gym clothes for fancy dress, for a comical calendar featuring famous double acts. Ovingham-based SSFitness, owned by personal trainer Diane Shane-Stone, 49, created the calendar to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.
Diane’s dad Michael Shane died in April 2016, at the age of 72, after he was diagnosed with an aggressive, grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) tumour. Diane said: “I never realised how many lives are devastated by brain tumours until Dad’s diagnosis. He was enjoying retirement when, in December 2015, he was given the agonising news that he had just five months to live. The news tore through my family like a shockwave.”
This is the third year that Diane has organised a charity calendar. The theme for 2020 is famous duos, with each month featuring a different well-known double act. The iconic couples include HM the Queen and Prince Philip, Antony and Cleopatra and Patsy and Edina from Absolutely Fabulous.
Diane added: “I have the most wonderful clients. It is a real privilege to train them all, they are game for anything! I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to the local businesses who sponsored a page in the calendar, to Joanne Pearson and Sam Cheeseman for their amazing hair and makeup, Robson Print in Hexham for their support, to my husband Colin for his camera skills and Charlie Shane-Stone for his design work. I am truly grateful to everyone who made this possible.”
The calendars are available to buy for £7.99 each from Diane at SSFitness, Ball’s Fish & Chips shop, Yellow estate agents and Caffe Ginevra on Front Street in Prudhoe. It can also be purchased from Julz hair salon in Wylam.
