A determined group of 16 fundraisers have recently completed their walk across the desert as part of Trek Sahara 2025.
We would like to congratulate and thank the courageous and selfless adventurers for their dedication to our shared cause. They have raised an incredible total of £80,000 for research into brain tumours.
Each with their own personal connections to the cause, the participants set off on Thursday 27ᵗʰ March to Marrakech, Morocco, completing the epic 50km, four-day adventure through the blistering heat of the Sahara, with the sole aim of finding a cure for this devastating disease.
Denise Sefton, a trustee of Brain Tumour Research, took on the challenge in honour of her nephew Theo, who died from a brain tumour in 2017, and her stepsister Lynne, diagnosed in 2012. Denise said: "The experience was amazing; we had a common purpose and sharing that with others was special. With so little known about these conditions, funding research is crucial. I'm proud of the money we raised for this cause."
Also among the trekkers was Nicola Shaw, a brain tumour patient who undertook the trip despite a meningioma diagnosis in 2023. She said: “It was an amazing experience and a huge challenge I feel proud to have completed. As a brain tumour survivor, I feel lucky that I am still here, so it was an opportunity to raise awareness and vital funds to support essential research.”
We are incredibly grateful to all those who took in the challenge and those who donated – as well as everyone who has raised funds to support our research in the past. The change we make would not be possible without you.
