A Christmas message from our Chief Executive

Thinking of you on Christmas Day and every day

I just want you to know that we are thinking of you today.

I hope you are coping in these really difficult days and that you and your family are well. We know how Christmas can be an emotional time for families who have lost loved ones.

Christmas is also a time of hope and this year we’re so pleased to be able to share the heart-warming story of seven-year-old Lyra Cole with you.

Lyra was just six months old when she underwent emergency surgery to remove a choroid plexus papilloma brain tumour. Happily, she has fully recovered and is doing very well, and becoming something of a Christmas legend.

After an amazing chart-topping success in 2019, she has released a second Christmas single for us this year – a wonderful cover of Shakin’ Stevens’ classic Merry Christmas Everyone. Take a moment to watch Lyra’s video – she is so talented and such a spirited ambassador for Brain Tumour Research.

Lyra and her family know how hard we are working to find a cure for brain tumours and all proceeds from the single will be donated to further help our mission.

Lyra’s aunt, Jessie Hawkes, who worked with her to record the track and create the video, said: “I really, really hope that Lyra’s story will bring some happiness and hope to people this Christmas.”

Sometimes it is the smallest people that have the loudest voice.

Whatever you are doing we wish you and your families a peaceful and restful Christmas.

Yours in hope,

Sue and the Brain Tumour Research Team
