This Saturday, 8 February, sees people across the UK getting together in our annual On Yer Bike event. It will be great to meet new spinners in London, Bristol, Edinburgh and Sheffield.
The event has been running since 2012 when it was launched by brain tumour patient Paul Halfpenny from Derbyshire. Sadly, Paul passed away in 2014 but the event has continued in his memory and now takes place nationwide.
Many participants of the 2020 event have been inspired by a loved one, including Cathy Pratt, paying tribute to her husband Andrew, who died from a brain tumour and who is holding her fourth On Yer Bike spinathon near Leeds, as well as Sophie Perks whose fiancé has an aggressive brain tumour and who is taking part in London, along with her sister, her best friend and her fiance’s best friend. Companies putting up teams include Melt the Fly, a documentary production company in Edinburgh inspired by charity supporter and patient Gordon Shaw and Buckinghamshire printers, BCQ who are taking part for the fifth time, along with our chief executive Sue Farrington Smith.
It’s not too late to register, or even to set up your own On Yer Bike event – just drop an email to carol@braintumourresearch.org. By taking part and raising money at this fantastic, pedal-pounding national event, you’ll be helping fund vital research as well as helping us to influence Government and larger charities to increase the national investment into research for brain tumours to £35 million per year.
We wish everyone spinning for brain tumours the very best!
