An amazing 86-year-old grandmother has walked 874 miles to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.
Margaret Smith was inspired to fundraise because her son Peter, 62, is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment after a scan revealed a previously-diagnosed brain tumour had grown back. Sadly, Margaret also has a nephew being treated for the same disease.
Accompanied by her dog, Luna, Margaret walked on average seven or eight miles a day. She set herself the challenge of covering the distance – which is the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats – over a year, but incredibly clocked up the miles in just four months.
After being featured in the Solihull Observer and InYourArea, Margaret’s fundraising total received a boost from generous readers who had seen her story. She has now raised more than £3,200 on her JustGiving page.
Margaret said: “Peter’s future is far from certain, which is why I am raising vital funds for Brain Tumour Research to help find a cure and am delighted that with help from generous friends and family I have already raised enough to sponsor a day of research.”
