A woman has dived into a swimming challenge to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research in memory of her dad.
Lifeguard Samantha Arscott has set herself the challenge to swim 26 miles in February. She will need to swim an average of 60 lengths or 1,500 metres a day.
Samantha said: “I only came up with this idea in January, so I’ve dived straight in, so to speak. I’ve also picked the shortest month to complete this, but I do love a challenge!”
It’s to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research inspired by her dad Clive Singleton, who died in January 2017 at the age of 57.
Father-of-three Clive had been diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) two years earlier after experiencing “a bad headache he couldn’t shake” and a pain on the side of his head.
“Brain tumours are awful because they really chip away at who a person is. Their personality slips away completely. We felt like Dad was gone long before he passed away,” Samantha added. “Not enough is known about brain tumours and research into them is severely underfunded, which is why I support Brain Tumour Research. Doing this challenge for such a great cause gives me massive motivation to get it done.”
Samantha has already raised more than £1,700 – an amazing achievement! To support her fundraising, please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Samantha-Arscott1
