Jo Crossey and Eileen Wood both know the heartache of having a son diagnosed with a brain tumour. They have both registered to Do Lunch! with friends and raise funds to get closer to a cure.
Eileen’s son Simon was suffering with chronic headaches eight years ago and had seen the GP several times, but his sister was still worried, especially when she saw him bumping into things. Her GP recommended a trip to the optician’s who advised he got checked out in hospital. Simon had emergency surgery which saved his life.
Then, late last year, Simon was found to have regrowth. Further surgery and/or radiotherapy was put on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic. The family are hoping to have an appointment with his consultant this month.
Jo lost her son Sean in September 2018. He was just 29. Sean had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in 2016 after suffering from headaches and mild seizures. He underwent three brain surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and married his fiancée Laura three months before he died.
Sean’s mantra was ‘carpe diem’ which he would explain as seize the day and just get on and enjoy life.
During these days of Covid-19 restrictions, Do Lunch! enables people to still get together virtually or physically this summer. Why don’t you join in? It’s a great way of staying in touch with family and friends while helping to feed vital research and raising awareness of this devastating disease.
