It is with great sadness we share the news that Janet Sykes, a beloved wife and mother, has died.
The news was announced on Janet’s Facebook page on Saturday 2nd December in a post which read: “Janet passed away this morning at 10:25am. She died peacefully surrounded by her closest relatives.”
Janet was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in May 2022, after experiencing symptoms which she initially thought were as a result of sunstroke. She had surgery, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
She leaves her husband Steve and young sons, Peter and David.
Following her diagnosis, Janet set up a birthday fundraiser which raised more than £1,000 for Brain Tumour Research. She worked with the charity to share her story which was read by millions after it was published in national newspapers, helping to raise vital awareness of the disease.
Melanie Tiley, our Community Development Manager, said: “We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Janet’s death and condolences go out to Steve, Peter and David, and all who loved her.
“We remain grateful to Janet for sharing her story and her legacy continues in the vital awareness she helped raise for this devastating disease. Janet’s memory will continue to inspire us as we work towards our vision of a cure for all types of brain tumours. She will be forever in our hearts.”
