Jude Upton was diagnosed with a grade 4 medulloblastoma after a trip to Specsavers on his eighth birthday in March 2020. He underwent surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy and enjoyed months of stable scans before finding out his cancer had returned last year. He is now undergoing further chemo and is due to have his next scan at the beginning of June.
His dad Danny (pictured with Jude), along with partner Bobbie Dunne, an employee of Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One, have already raised more than £4,450 to help find a cure. The majority was raised through an Aston Martin F1quiz night which included a raffle with prizes such as team merchandise and 3D-printed models of a replica race car and racing steering wheel.
A 2022 Aston Martin F1 race suit, signed by driver Lance Stroll, was also on display and is now being auctioned online to raise further funds for Brain Tumour Research. The auction will close at 12pm on Tuesday 20th June. Bids can be placed here.
Danny and Bobbie are also preparing to take on the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on Saturday 3rd June. They will hike 24.5 miles over a 1,600-metre ascent in under 12 hours.
Danny said: “I know I can’t do anything to change what’s happening to Jude but I’d like to help make a difference to others going through what he is in the future. I hope our fundraising, and everyone’s generosity, gives them a chance where he might not have one.
“We’ve come a long way with treatments for a lot of other cancers, which shows what’s possible with the right investment. There’s no reason the same can’t be true for brain cancer.”
