A grieving 11-year-old has shaved her head to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.
Katie Williams had her 18-inch locks cut off to raise money in memory of her dad, Andrew Williams, who passed away just three weeks earlier. Katie also donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust for a child or young person who has lost their own hair through illness.
Andy was diagnosed with a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) brain tumour – a high-grade cancer occurring most commonly in children – in February 2017. Despite undergoing gruelling radiotherapy and chemotherapy, he passed on 11th October 2020.
So far Katie has raised more than £3,100, which is enough to Sponsor a Day of research at one of our Centres of Excellence in memory of her dad.
She said: “My dad, my family and I have been through so much. I want to share his story so I can help other families going through the same. I want to raise awareness of this life-disrupting disease through shaving all my hair off and donating it to someone who needs it more than I do.”
